Hoag Levins, the award-winning editor and multimedia journalist, has joined Capitol News Connection (CNC), which provides congressional coverage to public radio and other media outlets across the country. As CNC’s V.P. of News & Interactive, Levins is responsible for lassoing the organization’s “social reporting.”
“To succeed in today’s complex market, news organizations must focus on what they do best and leave the rest to others,” said Levins.
Levins comes to CNC from his previous position as editor of Crain Communication’s AdAge.com and manager of Advertising Age video products. He was executive editor of Editor & Publisher and founding executive editor of APBnews.com, a criminal justice news site that provided content to radio, TV and online news organizations. A former staff reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, he’s the author of six nonfiction books.
“Hoag is that rare senior news executive who can deliver compelling, responsive and accurate content for all these platforms,” said Melinda Wittstock, CNC’s founder and CEO. “We are excited to have him aboard.”
Levins’s many skills: Online video editor and producer; a writer of news stories as well as HTML; an audio podcast editor and producer; a digital still photographer and “Photoshop geek”; and a newsroom manager who focuses on “audience-building” through e-mail newsletters, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, iTunes channels, blogs and other social media tools.
