Google has released a new iOS app for YouTube just in time for the expected release of the new iPhone 5 tomorrow. The new app comes after the license between Apple and Google expired. Unlike the old app, which came preloaded on iPhones, the new app will not come preloaded, but users can download it for free.
The app comes with a new YouTube logo as the icon, as opposed to the previous icon of a television, along with a handful of new features. For example, the app also an updated search functionality that lets users search through categories like puppies, airplanes and tennis. The search update also includes the ability to search through voice and query autocomplete.
YouTube explained that an iPad version is coming soon in a company blog post. Here is more from the post: “There’s even more to explore with the new YouTube app for iPhone and iPod touch, available for download from the App Store today. We’re working on an optimized version of the YouTube app for iPad in the coming months, and stay tuned for more details. You’ve already shown us you love YouTube on mobile—to the tune of 1 billion mobile views a day—so we can’t wait to see what you think about this new experience.”
