You can actually be bored to death, turns out. According to a recent study from the International Journal of Epidemiology, bored people are two and a half more times likely to die of a heart problem than non-bored folks.
Some caveats: The researchers asked workers in the 1980s to self-report workplace boredom, and they didn’t follow up with the workers until 2009when they found out how many had died. So the Grim Reaper of Boredom takes a long time to catch up with you.
Plus, the researchers don’t make a direct connection between boredom and death. Rather, they suggest that boredom makes you less likely to eat well, exercise, etc.
But hey. Keep those brain cells working, any way you can.
