WordPress for iOS had a great start as the official iPhone app to create and edit WordPress blogs while on the move. Unfortunately, the app unraveled shortly after an early update and remained buggy for years until the recent 2.7.x updates earlier this year. It is stable now and I am hestitant to apply the update released this week despite the addition of a handy new feature.
The 2.8 update adds support for 10 additional languages and Stats (blog statistics). Self-hosted WordPress blogs will need one of two plugins (Jetpack or Stats) to work with the app’s Stats feature. The big new feature is named “Quick Photo” and lets an iPhone user snap a photo for immediate use in a new blog entry. A title or description or both can be associated with the photo. WordPress notes that Quick Photo is only supported on the iPhone. I updated WordPress on an iPad 2 and can confirm that not only is Quick Photo not support there, but that there is no indication the feature even exists. There is no grayed out camera icon or any other indication of the feature.
WordPress for iOS is a free universal app. You can find it at:
