In case you prefer to do something more substantive with WHCD weekend than gape at celebs, look to The Washington Post. The paper will bring its awareness-raising campaign surrounding Tehran bureau chief Jason Rezaian’s detention at Iran’s Evin Prison–where he has been held for the past nine months–to the dinner.
The Post will distribute 1,000 pins, resembling the image above right, during a reception at the Washington Hilton, with the expectation that attendees will wear the pins during the dinner. As the hashtag suggests, social media outreach will also play a part.
Perhaps the most ardent #FreeJason supporter at the dinner will be Jason Rezaian’s brother, Ali Rezaian, a Post guest.
