The Walmart Foundation has committed to giving $1.5 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as part of its “Bright Spot for Reading” Initiative. This money will go to add reading rooms in existing Clubs, and it will be distributed as $10,000 grants to 100 lucky Clubs.
Clubs from all over the US have already received their grants, and many have already opened the reading room. One Club in particular, the Boys & Girls Club of Central Arkansas, has spent the grant on books, magazines, and Kindles.
Giving grants to only 100 Clubs might seem a drop in the bucket, but it’s bigger than you might think. The BGCCA, for example, is one Club with 7 clubhouses. It used the funds to improve all its locations, not just one.
