The creative geniuses behind Havas’ McKinney designed a Virgin Mobile ‘You Rule’ ad campaign to help the phone company’s customers feel in control of their cell phone plans. In part, the concept featured neighborhood-specific slogans postered on billboards around Gotham.
With the ‘my block beats your block’ attitude in New York, McKinney’s idea was genius, right? Sure, until the billboards started showing up in the wrong neighborhoods.
Case in point: Ones meant for the Upper West Side are flying high in the Upper East Side, featuring the slogan “… because up here it’s not cool to be tied down and uptight. If you want to live like that, move to Greenwich, or at least across the park.” Oh, snap. Take that UES.
