Behold, the Twitter rebranding. Starting today, there will be no more logo text or the lowercase 't' that users have gotten to know so well. Instead, the social network announced a slight rebrand via blog post, declaring the iconic, ascending bird as the "universally recognizable symbol of Twitter."
Below is part of Twitter's statement:
"Our new bird grows out of love for ornithology, design within creative constraints, and simple geometry. This bird is crafted purely from three sets of overlapping circles—similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends. Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility."
It sounds a little flowery and the line about the love for ornithology is a bit peculiar, but the rebranding seems to mark a new era for the social network—one where Twitter is so powerful and omnipresent that they don't need text for name recognition. The timing appears right, however, given a recent Pew Internet Study that shows 15 percent of online adults now spend time on Twitter daily, up nearly double since last year.
