Time’s latest cover story features an in-depth conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Cook is currently battling with the FBI over its demand that Apple unlock an encrypted iPhone that belonged to one of the San Bernardino shooters. He discusses the matter openly with Time.
“We see that this is our moment to stand up and say, stop and force a dialogue,” Cook explained. “There’s been too many times that government is just so strong and so powerful and so loud that they really just limit or they don’t hear the discourse.”
“Think about the things that are on people’s phones,” continued Cook. “Their kids’ locations are on there. You can see scenarios that are not far-fetched at all where you can take down power grids by going through a smart phone. We think the government should be pushing for more encryption. That it’s a great thing. You know, it’s like the sun and the air and the water.”
