The left has Media Matters. The right now has TruthRevolt, a new website launched today by Breitbart News Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro whose mission statement includes the following declaration: “The media must be destroyed where they stand.”
Are we facing Armageddon here?
If the mission statement sounds threatening, it’s meant to.
Those in the right-wing media routinely throw around words and phrases like “fight” and “warrior” and “fighting the good fight.” Shapiro’s statement says, “The goal of TruthRevolt is simple: unmask leftists in the media for who they are, destroy their credibility with the American public, and devastate their funding bases. … This will get personal. This will get rough. We’re ready for action. We need your help, and we want you to get involved — not just by giving money, but by becoming a TruthRevolt fighter.”
Shapiro’s first big story out of the gate is on MSNBC’s Al Sharpton. The headline: “Sharpton’s Crackers.” The story wonders why big time advertisers like Ritz Crackers are paying Sharpton’s salary. Shapiro writes, “In any rational world, Sharpton would certainly not have a primetime slot on MSNBC.” He even encourages readers to call and tweet at Mondelez International, which owns Ritz Crackers, and lists its phone number, Twitter handle and offers a hashtag: #SharptonsCrackers.
