Following up on Steve’s most excellent post last week, we thought you should know more about one particular designer whose work will be showcased at Macy’s. That’s milliner Eia (she has a last name, but it’s a mouthful so she doesn’t use it professionally.) She’s the only hat designer in the store’s designer shop so that’s quite an honor. In addition to making hats, Eia also teaches millinery (hat-making) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received her certificate in millinery from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She also studied with Janine Galimard, formerly of Balenciaga in Paris. We also wanted to let you know that Eia will be teaching Aussies her tricks of the trade in February. Yes, she’s heading to Australia!
What makes Eia’s hats particularly unique is that they are all handmade and sewn. Not one hat is stitched up on a sewing machine. The final product is magical and unique – no one else in the world will have a hat quite like yours. You can see more of Eia’s chapeaux here. (photo copyright Eia 2006)
