The deadline has been extended to Jan. 20, said Liz Heron, the news org's social media editor. Interest in this internship is very high, to say the least. Here's an idea of what the intern will do: Tasks will include: sparking conversations on The Times’s social media accounts — including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr and Instagram — as well as assisting on social journalism projects and providing general support. The intern will work closely with the social media editors and developers, as well as reporters, editors and Web producers working on social media-related projects around the newsroom. The ideal candidate is someone who understands all the "journalistic opportunities presented by social media." Don't worry -- you don't need to be a programmer but you will need to be a whiz at using Twitter, Facebook and other social technologies in a newsroom or other editorial setting. Just a note: graduate students are preferred. This is a great opportunity to work with some of the leading social media innovators in journalism.
