We don’t have to tell you how cold it is, and yet, the frigid winds fill us with the need to gripe. Now indoors, we still can’t seem to shake off the chill, although the blame probably lies with the iced mocha we decided to order.
We describe our coffee habits as prelude to another weather-flouting activity: the wintry Iowa incarnation of Tammy Haddad‘s Garden Brunch.
Normally this annual event, a warm-up to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, may bring up images of journos, celebs and Washington insiders kicking back on a green D.C. lawn under a springtime sky, but this version, dubbed the Snowflake Garden Brunch, will take place in Des Moines, Iowa on Jan. 31, a day before the Iowa Caucuses. The weather forecast for that day predicts a high of 35, so it’s a good thing the brunch will be held inside the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates.
The event is co-hosted by Haddad, Hilary Rosen, Mark Halperin, John Heilemann, Ben Ginsberg and John and Christine Stineman, and will pay tribute to Blue Star Families. It will feature Iowa’s governing class, including the current governor, U.S. senators past and present, and the state’s attorney general.
The hashtag for the event is #SnowflakeGardenBrunch; we look forward to Sen. Chuck Grassley‘s tweets.
