Jets, Sunday Night Football Take Number Two for Week

On Sunday night, the Jets played their third game of the season against their division rival Dolphins. The game was opposite the Yankees and Red Sox on ESPN. 

But the night belonged to the Jets and WNBC. The Nielsen Company reports an estimated 1.5 million people stayed with the tight game, as it pulled in a 7.5 rating. It was big numbers for Sunday Night Football, but not the biggest of the week.

Number one goes to WABC and the Monday night two-hour Dancing With The Stars (1.6 million/8.3). The Tuesday night result show was third (1.2 million/6.1).

WCBS’ highest ranking for the week was at four, with the 30-minute spillover from late afternoon NFL action (1.2 million/6.1).

The Glee season premiere gave WNYW its best showing in fifth place (1.1 millon/5.6).

WABC had a trio of shows next in the Top 10.

  • Grey’s Anatomy tied for fifth (1.1 million/5.6).
  • Desperate Housewives was seventh (1 million/5.3)
  • Emmy winning Modern Family took eighth place (1 million/5.0)

60 Minutes, despite a late start following football, managed a number nine for the week. (1 million/4.9).

Also on WCBS, the new version of Hawaii 5-0 debuted in a tie for nine (1 million/4.9).

The only Yankees game to crack the Top 30 was a WWOR broadcast on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

The House season premiere, on Fox 5/WNYW, was only 26th best for the week (700,000/3.5).

MTV’s Jersey Shore, also struggled. The reality show landed at 23 (717,000/3.6).
