Stand Back! Amanpour, Issa, to Celebrate Groundbreaking Investigative Journalism

The Center for Public Integrity’s 20th Anniversary gala at the Newseum this Thursday, October 21st.

The Center is celebrating 20 years of “groundbreaking investigative journalism” in the public interest. The guest of honor is Center for Public Integrity founder Chuck Lewis.  ABC “This Week” Host Christiane Amanpour will be master of ceremonies. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and known to be among 23 millionaires in Congress, will be a guest-speaker. We’ll see if anyone recognizes his voice – his is the voice on the Viper car alarm, which he created. On some models, he instructs in a low, devil bravado, “Please step away from the car.”

(Want to get a sense of the car alarm voice? This country boy takes an agonizingly long time getting to the demo, but if you can muck through his long-winded explanation, listen here. This alarm warns, “Stand back!”)

Issa’s plan for Thurday’s event is broad. “Specifically the partnership between us and the press and how we interact with one another to hold government accountable,” said Spokesman Kurt Bardella.
