Three-quarters of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) use social media, spending about one-fifth of their total media budget on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, reveals a new study.
In their ongoing study of the advertising behaviors of small and medium-sized businesses, BIA/Kelsey found that 74.5 percent now use social media, with more than half (55.1 percent) active on Facebook. One in five have run a Facebook ad or promoted post, and SMBs reported spending 21.4 percent of their total media budget on social media in the past 12 months.
“It’s evident that social media has become a pivotal platform for SMBs,” said Steve Marshall, director of research at BIA/Kelsey. “Social media is not only number one in terms of utilization by SMBs, it is also number one in share of SMB media spending.”
