While one in five adult internet users worldwide are technically active on the Twitter platform, more than one in three regularly visit Twitter without ever logging in, reveals a new study.
GlobalWebIndex looked at “hidden” users of social media, notably Twitter, where 36 percent have visited the platform via any device in the past month – which is the definition of an active “user” of social media.
This compares to 22 percent who are strictly active users, inasmuch as they have a profile and are logged into Twitter when they use it.
This places Twitter in a similar position to YouTube, where 82 percent of internet users have visited the video portal (in the past month), but just 24 percent have accounts.
Bottom line: both Twitter and YouTube are much bigger than their active users tally would suggest.
