Simon & Schuster has established an outpost in India. The newly formed Simon & Schuster will publish English language books for the Indian market. It will mainly focus on print books, the publisher will release a handful of eBook titles.
The Indian imprint will offer titles from Simon & Schuster’s various worldwide imprints and divisions and will be priced in rupees. The collection will be selected specifically for the Indian marketplace with inventory for titles published and distributed in India coming through Simon & Schuster U.K. HarperCollins India will handle fulfillment and distribution. Operations are expected to begin August 1.
Rahul Srivastava, who had previously served as a sales agent for the publisher in India, will head up a new sales team at Simon & Schuster India’s New Delhi office.
Carolyn Reidy, President/CEO of Simon & Schuster had this statement about the new imprint: “India is a rapidly developing market for English language books, with a growing retail bookstore presence, and a deep-seated culture that prizes books and literacy, and we are very excited to bring more of our authors’ books to India’s expanding audience of English readers.”
