Sharp Launches Galapagos Tablets In Japan

Sharp has launched a line of Galapagos tablets in Japan.

The Register UK has more: “Announced back in September, the range comprises 5.5in, 1024 x 600 and 10.8in, 1366 x 800 models, running an unspecified OS but linked to a range of online content shops. The emphasis is very much on media consumption and communications, so it’ll be interesting to see if any kind of store for third-party apps builds up around these boys.”

The tablets will compete with the iPad and the growing number of tablets on the market, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Dell Streak and the coming PlayBook from RIM. The 5.5 inch Galapagos will cost about $475 and the 10.8 inch version will cost about $652.
