Rule # 4: Listen to the locals. Really.

thumb04.gifWe just heard on WNYC that Italian reporter Giuliana Sgrena was abducted in the street right outside Baghdad University, where she had been doing interviews with locals. Apparently Ms. Sgrena, who writes for the Communist paper Il Manifesto – a vehemently anti-war organ sympathetic to the people she was there to cover – did not want any security guards, just an interpreter.

Straight up, with no humor: When your colleagues are wearing flak jackets, get one. And when they don’t make a move outside the Green Zone without at least two guys who know the lay of the land, do the same. Especially since journo-snatching is getting more popular there, not less. And Mujihadeen don’t care about your politics.
