Rule # 4: Listen to the locals. Really.

We just heard on WNYC that Italian reporter Giuliana Sgrena was abducted in the street right outside Baghdad University, where she had been doing interviews with locals. Apparently Ms. Sgrena, who writes for the Communist paper Il Manifesto – a vehemently anti-war organ sympathetic to the people she was there to cover – did not want any security guards, just an interpreter.

Straight up, with no humor: When your colleagues are wearing flak jackets, get one.
