Yesterday, the second round of online voting for Rolling Stone magazine’s “Choose the Cover” competition closed. Out of the eight bands still in the running, four will get to move on per an announcement scheduled for April 27th.
The odds are pretty good for SoCal talent, as half the talent remaining is based in the area: Tha Boogie (Rancho Cucamonga); Skyler Stonestreet (LA); The Romany Rye (Long Beach); and Lelia Broussard (LA). Stonestreet, who hails from Santa Barbara, confesses to local alt weekly the Independent she is definitely now in it to win it:
“I’ve been trying to get as many votes as possible, even telling ladies in grocery stores,” she laughed. “When I was in the top 16, I was kind of like, ‘We’ll see what happens.’ Then I made it to the top eight, and it’s, like, now I need to win.”
The eventual winner also gets an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and a contract with Atlantic Records. Good luck to all!
