All matters relating to the Playboy empire are cleared through legal. Still, FishbowlLA is somewhat surprised that the TV end of Hef’s holdings was able to call a new show Playboy’s Sextreme Makeover, without protestations from those connected to the similar sounding Sunday night ABC-TV reality franchise.
The half-hour program, which debuts this Saturday at 10:00 p.m., is hosted by former Playmate Cara Zavaleta (pictured). She is also a one-time cast member of MTV’s Road Rules, has hosted the HDNet series Get Out, and appeared as a judge on Playboy Shootout.
Each week, a variety of “sexperts” will try to turn around the bedroom fortunes of two participating couples, with help from advisers such as former porn star Nina Hartley, author Lara Catone, and sex educator Jamye Waxman. The ten-episode initial run ends September 17.
While the print side of Playboy has been hamstrung by runaway Internet porn fans and one runaway bride, Playboy TV keeps cranking along. It’s available as a subscription option in more than 70- million U.S. households, and a publicist tells us the subscriber base in the cable sector is up a whopping 22% from one year ago.
