When the name of the publication is Mother & Baby, this sort of cover should logically be the rule rather than the exception. But it isn’t, quite yet.
The mom, Sophie Cachia, is well-known Down Under for her candid and often humorous blog The Young Mummy.” We join her fans in applauding the Bauer Media publication for featuring one of life’s most fundamental processes on the cover of the May issue.
That’s daughter Florence, born at the beginning of this year, with the Melbourne mom on the cover. The 26-year-old Cachia also has a son. Elle Australia put out a similar cover a few years ago, but for subscribers only. This one is also hitting newsstands.
For a little more background on this formidable mom, we turn to one of her recent Instagram posts:
The number one question I get asked: ‘why did you start your blog The Young Mummy?’ I was a 22-year-old journalism student who had always worked in the media field since I was a teenager. I suffered horrific morning sickness (a.k.a. 24/7), so had to stop working and defer my studies.
Writing was in my veins so it was foreign for me to be forced to stop all together. Combine that with the fact that I was really struggling with the notion that ‘pregnancy is the most beautiful time in your life’ [I put on 10kg in the first trimester, grew a beard and vomited so hard on occasions that I shit myself]. So I started penning my journey in a blog to my personal Facebook page, and my first post was shared and viewed by hundreds of thousands of people in the first week.
The emails began to flood from strangers–‘When is your next post coming?’ I thought, ‘Hmmm, why are people so interested in what I’m saying?’ And that’s still a question I continue to ask myself every single day. But nearly four years on, here I am.
Oh, and did we mention that Cacchia also live-streamed the birth of Florence? Australian for: You go woman!
