Mitt Romney on 'Downton Abbey,' Campaign Massages for 'With All Due Respect' Premiere
Monday marked the launch of Bloomberg Politics’ “With All Due Respect” and for it, Game Change and Double Down authors John Heilemann and Mark Halperin sat down with 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney for a live interview of some of the most pressing issues of the day.
Those who watched, walked away confident Romney can identify and name his 21 grandchildren, know that he enjoys watching the downstairs cast more than the upstairs cast of “Downton Abbey,” and that a former masseuse’s question of whether he’s a dancer “was the best complement” he has ever received.
While politics was the topic of conversation for much of the 23-minute program, several segments, including the above mentioned, seemed wildly out of place.
POLITICO’s Dylan Byers wrote of the premiere:
“This was not the conversation we had been promised. In the previews — awkward as they were — Halperin and Heilemann were seen at lunch, on a walk, watching a baseball game. The whole aesthetic promised a “Morning Joe”- or “CBS This Morning”-style conversation, where hosts and guests would be given room to stretch out, share insights, and be human. There’s no time for that in the current WADR format.”
