Merriam-Webster Names 'Culture' Word of The Year
According to Merriam-Webster, the word of the year is “Culture.” Like it or not, you have to agree it’s better than Oxford’s word of the year, “vape.”
“Culture is a word that we seem to be relying on more and more,” said Peter Sokolowksi, Merriam-Webster’s editor-at-large, in an announcement. “It allows us to identify and isolate an idea, issue, or group with seriousness.”
Merriam-Webster selected culture as the top dog after analyzing the top searches on its site, and then focusing on words that had shown the greatest increase since last year.
