“Meet” Scores Huge With Obama

    According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press” was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, December 7, 2008 in all categories. The Brokaw-moderated program was No. 1, averaging 6.561 million total viewers, +98 percent more (+3.245 million) than second place CBS’ “Face the Nation” 3.316 million, a +106 percent advantage (+3.381 million) over third place ABC’s “This Week” 3.180 million and a +372 percent lead (+5.184 million) over FOX News Sunday’s 1.377 million. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in total viewers for 376 of the past 378 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage). This was “Meet the Press'” largest total viewer audience for a political interview since President George W. Bush appeared on February 8, 2004.

    In Washington, D.C., “Meet the Press” topped the competition with 156,000 viewers (5.0/14), a +117 percent advantage over ABC’s 72,000 viewers (2.6/7), a +77 percent lead over CBS’s 88,000 viewers (2.9/8), and +49 percent more than FOX’s 105,000 viewers (3.5/10).

    In homes nationally, the NBC program was No. 1, posting a 4.5 rating and 12 share. CBS came in second with a 2.3 and 6 share, ABC in third with a 2.2 and 6 share and FOX placed last with a 1.0 rating and 3 share. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in households for 113 straight weeks and 473 of the past 474 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).

    Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning show came in first with a 1.8 rating, CBS and ABC tied with 0.9 and FOX came in last with a 0.4. In rating A25-54, “Meet the Press” topped CBS and ABC by +100% (+9 tenths) and FOX by +350% (+1.4 tenths).

    Among the Sunday public affairs competition, MTP posted the largest increases over its respective prior week, prior year, and season-to-date averages. Week to week, “Meet the Press” posted double-digit increases across the board in homes (+67%), total viewers (+75%), rating W/M/A18-49 (+86%/+86%/+86%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+80%/+73%/+80%). Versus the same week last season, MTP increased in homes (+80%), total viewers (+92%), rating W/M/A18-49 (+117%/+86%/+86%) and rating W/M/A25-54 (+100%/+90%/+100%). Compared to its 4Q’08/STD averages, MTP was up in homes (+41%), total viewers (+48%), rating W/M/A18-49 (+44%/+44%/+44%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+38%/+46%/+38%). Season-to-date, MTP is up in homes (+27%), total viewers (+33%) rating W/M/A18-49 (+29%/+43%/+43%), and rating W/M/A25-54 (+44%/+30%/+30%).
