Prolific commercial director Bryan Buckley made this spot with basketball player Luol Deng:
Bryan Buckley (Hungry Man) partners with Luol Deng to launch first ever commercial campaign for UNHCR giving an unheard viral voice to refugees in Sudan.
In an unprecedented appeal for global funding the UNHCR has reached out to Super Bowl commercial director Bryan Buckley to concept and produce a worldwide awareness campaign starring NBA superstar Luol Deng. Cameras followed the athlete on his epic journey to visit his war torn homeland. Mr Deng hadn’t set foot back in his country since he and his family fled the Northern rebels in 1992. Capturing unseen faces and never heard stories from behind the camp lines, the film takes an unflinching look at the realities previously unbroadcast in this long format Public Service Announcement.
With Sudan’s separation vote underway and a shaky political future on the horizon for the Southern Sudanese Separatist movement, today the UNHCR is facing unparalleled levels of overcrowding and displacement in refugee camps across the world. The struggle for global awareness and safe placement of refugees is more pressing and unresolved than ever before. Teaming up with the Emmy award winning director, and the one of the top international commercial production companies, the UNHCR aims to reach audiences around the world with the forthcoming campaign.
