Limelight Networks, a company which offers a variety of back-end support services to Web sites like MSNBC.com and iFilm, has acquired Kiptronic, a firm that offers dynamic ad insertion in Web video. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Just a few weeks ago, Kiptronic began delivering ads within videos for NBC.com’s mobile properties. The San Francisco, Calif.-based firm, which launched a podcasting ad product in 2006, currently works with media companies such as NPR, Fox and Condé Nast.
Limelight, which offers clients services such as content management, monetization tools and video-streaming capacity, plans to leverage Kiptronic’s capabilities in the burgeoning mobile arena, said Jeff Lunsford, Limelight’s chairman and CEO. “Today, the distribution and monetization of content on [mobile] devices is complex and difficult to implement in a scalable fashion….We look forward to working with the talented Kiptronic team to bring to market additional innovative solutions for mobile and connected devices that will benefit our customers and our ecosystem partners.”
