James Barrett, 75, Dies

James Philip Barrett, the first public relations director for NPR, died of pneumonia June 4 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Barrett helped launch the network and “All Things Considered” in the spring of 1971. Instrumental in the fledging years of the network, Barrett promoted NPR until 1979, when health problems forced early retirement.
