Even though Vin Scully’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is not among the two dozen or so considered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to be in the greatest state of disrepair, it’s a cause of concern for fans of L.A.’s silky smooth baseball announcer.
The campaign to repair Scully’s star started with a letter from “Vin Scully is my Homeboy” blogger Roberto Baly to the Chamber, which elicited the reply that a current $4 million repair effort does not encompass the sportscaster’s star. It has now progressed to a Chicago-based Angeleno, Glenn Mingay, trying to raise the $2,500 needed. Per a report on Hollywood Patch:
Mingay built a website, Save Vin Scully’s Star… He put in $100 of his own money and started collecting donations. “There’s a lot going on with the Dodgers right now that the fans are upset about, things they can’t control. This is an opportunity for them to control something,” Mingay said.
The Torrance native tells Patch he is scheduled to return to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks, and hopes the fundraising goal will be met by then.
