Bill Douglas is “one of Canada’s pre-eminent book designers,” so it makes sense that he hosted yesterday’s International Festival of Authors panel in Toronto, “Judging a Book By Its Cover,” which featured one of our pre-eminent book designers, Chip Kidd, along with cartoonist Lynda Barry thrown in for good measure. The National Post talked to Douglas before the event, conducting this short interview with him about how he sees the future of book design, his favorite designers, and what he’s seen change in the industry over the years. It’s a worthy, quick read and should buy us some time in tracking down someone who attended the event to get some feedback about how it all went.
