Subject: Introducing Jezebel

Hi there,

I’m Anna Holmes, and I’m the managing editor of Jezebel, Gawker Media’s newest title, which is launching this afternoon. Jezebel’s mission is to cover celebrity, sex, and fashion for women — without airbrushing. Think of it as the sort of women’s media property that could never see the light of day in traditional print because the big-name advertisers and the publishers who kowtow to them don’t much like it when someone points out the vulgarity of a $2,000 handbag.

The site is going live just as this email is being sent. Check it out:

To further introduce the site and explain our mission, we’ve published a Manifesto about the evils of women’s magazines:

And, we’re offering $10,000 to the person who sends us the best, UNRETOUCHED women’s magazine cover image:

Other launch-day exclusives include Label Whores, in which we take faux-designer clothing into consignment shops and see how much we can get for it (answer: way too much):

And an edited reel of clips from the week’s best talk shows:

We’d love to hear your feedback on the site. To make raising your voice easier, there’s a Gawker Media comment invitation included at the bottom of this email. (If you’re already registered as a commenter on another Gawker site, your login will work fine on Jezebel, so feel free to forward this email along to a friend to use.) Of course, we’re also hoping you’ll have stories and tips to send our way at Either way, thanks for reading.

Tearing my perfectly highlighted hair out,

Anna Holmes
