Amex 9/11 Facebook App Aims To Inspire Volunteerism

American Express is honoring 9/11 with a new Facebook application designed to encourage volunteering.

American Express is honoring the ten-year anniversary of 9/11 with a new Facebook application, “I Will Volunteer,” that hopes to encourage the 60 percent of Americans research shows want to perform charitable acts as the 10th anniversary approaches.

This announcement follows a recent unveiling of a 9/11 application by National Geographic; we wouldn’t be surprised if more such apps came out between now and the day of.

The Amex app supports the federally-recognized “9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance” initiative led by MyGoodDeed and the HandsOn Network. The I Will Volunteer app enables Facebook users to search the 9/11 day database for opportunities by project or type, sign up for opportunities in their area, and then share their commitment with their friends on Facebook.

Amex has posted the app on the brand’s Facebook page along with a separate page dedicated to the app.

According to Horizon research that was sponsored by MyGoodDeed, 84 percent of adults between the ages of 21 and 35 are ready to commemorate 9/11 through volunteering. More than half of those that have volunteered in the past were new to volunteering.
