Brits in Hollywood usually are whining about the beer, but not in David Ehrenstein’s witty piece in the LA Weekly on English ex-patriates in Hollywood and environs.
Ehrenstein is really the thinking person’s movie expert, and he gets some fascinating information from ex-pats like Morrissey, Jacqueline Bisset and 95-year old director Ronald Neame. Actress Barabara Steele sums up the appeal of Los Angeles:

There’s not a deep sense of time. It just sort of glides along and you don’t have a sense of urgency. Maybe that’s why the most difficult journey you can make is from here to the airport.
