ABC anchor Diane Sawyer will emcee the 69th annual Peabody Awards for excellence in broadcasting by radio and television stations, networks, webcasters, producing organizations and individuals. This year’s ceremony will be held on Monday, May 17, at the Waldorf-Astoria. Sawyer is the first media personality in Peabody history to host the awards twice, her first time having been in 1996.
Says Horace Newcomb, director of the Peabody Awards at the University of Georgia:
Diane Sawyer has worked in every facet of broadcast journalism. Now, as anchor of ABC’s “World News,” all her prior experience is brought to bear on the most significant events of our time in the most professional manner. We are delighted that for the second time she will serve as our host and Master of Ceremonies for the 69th Peabody Awards presentation.
