Conservative Media Wants Last Word on O’Donnell

> Update: “Minutes ago MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell said on Twitter: “Spoke to @ChairmanMSteele today. Will discuss on the show tonight.”

The Washington Examiner‘s Mark Hemingway went after MSNBC’s newest host Lawrence O’Donnell late last night after his program aired an interview with RNC Chairman Michael Steele. MSNBC invited Steele back on O’Donnell’s “The Last Word” program tonight for another round. But Steele turned down the offer. “He will not,” said RNC Spokesman Doug Heye.

In question is O’Donnell introduction of Steele from last night’s interview: “As the first congressional election during his party chairmanship approaches, Michael Steele is dancing as fast as he can trying to charm independent voters and Tea Partiers while never losing sight of his real master and paycheck provider, the Republican National Committee.”

Wrote Hemingway: “Try, if you can, to imagine the outrage if Bill O’Reilly or some other Fox News personality had gone the air and said that the Democratic party was Barack Obama’s “master.” However, since Michael Steele is an African American who happens to be a Republican, I don’t suspect too many members of the media will be beating down Lawrence O’Donnell’s door and demanding an apology.”

Hemingway railed against O’Donnell this afternoon in another post on the host’s past “meltdown” over the Swift Boat Vets, reiterating his point that O’Donnell’s remarks on Steele were “racially tinged” and “inappropriate.”

From Newsbusters: “Did Lawrence O’Donnell, MSNBC’s newest prime time talker, effectively call RNC chairman Michael Steele a black minstrel dancer? It sure seems that way.”

O’Donnell doesn’t mince his beliefs on race or religion….

O’Donnell once went off on Mormons on The McLaughlin Group. “The faith of his father is a racist faith,” he said of former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. Watch here.
