In an age when each spring, news outlets report the local angle of a high school teen who invites a celebrity to his or her prom, one Connecticut girl went a different route.
Seven months ago, Talia Maselli, a senior at Newington High School mailed a handwritten letter to Vice President Joe Biden, inviting him to join her at her senior prom.
“I am inviting you so far in advance because I’m sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations, and I had to beat them to it,” she wrote. “I could only tolerate a high school dance if I was to be escorted by the most delightful man in America.”
Although Biden was unable to Friday’s festivities, he had delivered to her on Thursday a corsage and handwritten note thanking the teen for the invitation and inviting her to visit the White House.
Although she did not actually plan to attend Friday’s school dance, Maselli does plan to visit with Biden this summer, before starting college at Central Connecticut State University.
