Cell Journalist Unveils iPhone App

Cell Journalist, provider of user generated content solutions to television stations, newspapers and other media outlets, has launched its iPhone application as a free download from the Apple iPhone App Store.

The product enables anyone with an iPhone, cell phone, or other mobile communication device to upload images of news, weather and other events as they happen, sharing content in a single-step process. Additional functionality of the new iPhone application integrates with Cell Journalist’s current platform, used by dozens of media outlets.

The Cell Journalist iPhone application offers a number of benefits not previously available for subscribing media organizations. “For example, it allows us to put our own brand on the application, extending the bond between our reader and their trusted information source.” Jack Lail, news innovation officer at Cell Journalist subscriber the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel, said in a statement. The News Sentinel, he added, now has its own custom-branded application at the iPhone Apps Store.

The iPhone’s geographic locator allows the media organization to know where the user is located when content is submitted, which is often important when breaking news and significant weather situations are involved, according to CellJournalist founder and President Parker Pollidor.

The new app also allows a user to add more metadata to the image, enabling a media organization to process images faster and more accurately.
