Nominations for the 27th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards were announced today. Alexandria-based PBS led with 33 nods. Discovery and several of its channels including Animal Planet and Discovery Channel — earned nine nominations. National Geographic received eight.
Not surprisingly, Hurricane Katrina, Iraq and the war on terror were popular topics. Meet the Press and This Week each snagged a nod for Outstanding Interview; Tim Russert for his work on Hurricane Katrina and George Stephanopoulos for his interview with L. Patrick Gray. The WashingtonPost.com earned two nominations in the Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Delivery Platforms for Fueling Azerbaijan’s Future and Hurricane Katrina Coverage in New Orleans.
The awards will be announced on Sept. 25.
