Will it be a little sister who wants to buy a new brother, a woman’s journey via her Kindle or men fulfilling their wish lists?
Those were three of the themes among the winners in the “Your Amazon Ad Contest.”
Earlier this year, the online retailer announced its first national competition in search of the best user-generated TV ads. Today, it disclosed the five finalists. Amazon is asking consumers to rate the ads, up until Sept. 6, at www.amazon.com/yaac.
The five finalists are “Paper Amazon” by Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Andy Basore; “Wish List” from Philadelphia’s Gary Irwin; “Not Available” from David Keenan in Hacienda Heights, Calif.; “Kindlicious” by Los Angeles’ Angela Kohler; and “Proceed to a Better Life” from Dian Sananikone in Marietta, Ga.
Consumers who take the time to rate the videos will be entered to win a trip to the Gen Arts Film Festival in New York in April as well as Flip Ultra HD camcorders. The creator of the highest-rated ad will also win a trip for two to the festival and a $10,000 Amazon gift card, as will the jury prize winner, which Amazon has already selected and will announce on Sept. 21. All of the TV spots will be screened at the festival.
“What stood out the most when reviewing the submissions was the filmmakers’ enthusiasm for sharing their experiences with Amazon,” said Aaron Levin, Gen Arts Film Festival associate director, in a statement. “You could really feel that everyone worked hard and had a blast making these ads.”
Amazon recently chose a lead agency, Berlin Cameron United, following a review.
