One of the biggest kicks of being a media reporter is getting to write about characters like Alycia Lane. The cop-punching, (allegedly) Rich Eisen seducing, political scandal-causing Philly news anchor’s life story has played out in public as the dysfunctional spawn of Billy Wilder, Hunter S. Thompson, Katie Couric and Courtney Love. We love it.
So, of course, sooner or later someone had to do a long-form magazine piece about it. Philadelphia magazine did. Here’s a choice quote from Vicki Glembocki‘s piece:
So CBS 3 had a lot to celebrate at its afternoon holiday party on Sunday, December 16th. Until 4:07 p.m. That’s when a staffer manning the assignment desk saw the story by Daily News scoops Regina Medina and Dan Gross pop up on Phillygossip.com. The staffer ran to the party and pulled station president and general manager Michael Colleran aside. “Oh my God,” Colleran yelled when he saw the story. “Oh my God! This is bad!”
The headline: ALYCIA LANE ARRESTED IN NEW YORK FOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING AN NYPD OFFICER.
Fun fact: Lane once broke down crying during an on-air interview with Dr. Phil. Good times!
