Mark Glaser, over at Media Shift has compiled some alternative business models for newspapers. Apparently, the Victorian business model is rusted through…and unrecognizable as a business or a model.
Are we being dramatic? Only slightly.
Anyway, Glaser delves into the various models bouncing around including Blog Networks, Classified Networks, Crowdfunding, Customized Papers, Hyper-Local Ads, Local Portal, Multimedia Ads, Niche Sites, Non-Profit and Paid Content.
We used to tout the non-profit model stating,”You don’t see NPR laying people off.” That was before they announced they were laying people off. So, don’t ask us. We just work here.
