While we were hanging on every word at Apple’s iPhone press conference, Adobe came out with some news that is perhaps more interesting for digital publishers.
The company announced the new Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition, which allows publishers to make iPad apps using InDesign CS5.5 for a flat fee of $395 per app. The work flow takes publishers through the design process and allows users to publish apps directly into iTunes without having to code anything.
This is a pretty cool offering for publishers who are familiar with InDesign for laying out books, but who find the idea of creating eBook apps a daunting task or too expensive. This tool will compete with companies like Electric Literature, who also offer a cost-effective tool for publishers to create iPad apps.
