Sampling This Year’s Best Wine Blog Nominees

Although we’re still at the very beginning of the 2011 awards season drumbeat, it will be hard to find a more colorful list of nominees than those in contention for the latest round of Wine Blog Awards.

This is the fifth year for the awards, which are coordinated by Montana based wine expert Allan Wright. Winners will be announced this coming Saturday in conjunction with the American Wine Bloggers Conference in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The 2011 nominees include a number of California based websites such as BEEN DOON SO LONG, Vinography, Wilma’s Wine World, and Fermentation. There was a public voting phase June 21-27, the results of which will be equally weighted with the opinions of a panel of judges.

FishbowlLA can’t help but wonder who the winners might thank if there was an actual awards ceremony (their sommelier? the relative who first let them sneak a taste of wine at the family dinner table?…) There are eight different categories in all as well as, presumably, still enough time for a broken Merlot bottle mini-feud between Best New Blog finalists Reverse Wine Snob and Terroirist.
