Walmart ‘Korners’ the Kiss Market

NEW YORK The release of Kiss’ first new album in 11 years was music to Walmart’s ears as the retailer readies “Kiss Korners,” dedicated areas in its electronics departments and Halloween aisles.

“To complement this highly anticipated music release, we are excited to bring a unique store experience with Kiss merchandise at an unbeatable value for fans of all ages,” said Greg Hall, vp of media services, Walmart U.S. “It has been both fun and an honor to work with the band and celebrate with fans the new music release and album tour.”

The special areas will open Oct. 6 and feature T-shirts, wigs, makeup, limited edition M&M candies and even Mr. Potato Head spuds of all four band members through Halloween. Select items, including the MP3 digital album, will be available at Walmart.com. Pre-orders for the new three-disc set are currently available at www.walmart.com/kiss for $12.

Sonic Boom features an 11-track CD as part of a three-disc set that also features a rerecorded greatest hits CD and a live DVD shot in Argentina during the band’s recent tour. The greatest hits CD will include tracks made famous on the classic Kiss Alive! Album, such as “Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Deuce,” “Black Diamond” and “Hotter Than Hell.” The CD/DVD set will retail for $12 exclusively at Walmart, Walmart.com, Sam’s Club and samsclub.com.

Kiss will kick off a 40-plus-city tour with a special Kiss Alive 35 show at Detroit’s Cobo Arena on Sept. 25. The basic tracks from Kiss Alive were recorded in Detroit in 1975.
