Sports Drink Returns to Its NFL Roots

CHICAGO For the second round in Gatorade’s history campaign, Element 79 Partners has created a spot featuring members of the Kansas City Chiefs football team from the early 1970s.

The television commercial stars former Chief’s quarterback Len Dawson and his coach, Hank Stram, and relates how the team was the first in the National Football League to use the sports drink, sources confirmed.

The spot is set to break this month. An agency representative declined to offer details.

The Chicago shop last summer broke a spot that told how Gatorade was developed by University of Florida scientists to help the school’s football team, the Gators, cope with the heat. College football announcer Keith Jackson, who returns in the same role in the new spot, narrated.
