Mindshare Exec Moves to Planworks

NEW YORK GM Planworks, the unit of Publicis Groupe’s Starcom MediaVest Group that handles buying and planning for General Motors in the U.S., has hired Kathy McCauley as svp, managing director, in charge of all local broadcast planning and buying on the account.

McCauley, 50, joins Planworks from a 23-year stint at WPP Group’s Mindshare in Chicago. Since 1995, she has been client service director with primary responsibility for local broadcast planning and buying for the Ford Dealers Association.

McCauley will remain based in Chicago at SMG headquarters, where she will report to Kevin Gallagher, svp and local investment director for GM Planworks and Starcom USA.

Planworks is phasing in GM buying to its operation, having won the estimated $3.2 billion business in May after a shootout with incumbent GM Mediaworks, a unit of Interpublic Group’s Universal McCann. (Planworks already handled media planning for GM.)

McCauley will also oversee the activities of six offices around the country where local GM buying and planning operations will be housed in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Dallas and Atlanta.

In addition, the agency said it has hired Brian Pruitt to run the Atlanta office, reporting to McCauley. Previously, Pruitt was the local broadcast manager in Atlanta for LCI, the UM unit that had handled GM’s local broadcast buying.

Planworks also said that Rochelle Navarro would direct the Los Angeles office, shifting from Planworks Detroit, where she is currently vp, media director
