Luca Lindner has been promoted to president of McCann Worldgroup, a new role at the Interpublic company. The 53-year-old has been president for the Americas, Middle East and Africa since late 2012.
The move comes just weeks after Lindner’s close working partner at Worldgroup, Gustavo Martinez, president of Europe and Asia, announced his departure to become global president at JWT in February and succeed Bob Jeffrey as global CEO in 2015.
Lindner, well-regarded for his client finesse, has overseen multinational marketers and McCann operations in Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He first joined the agency in 2004 as CEO of McCann Mexico and deputy regional director of Latin America and the Caribbean before rising to become regional director the following year. Before McCann, Lindner was vice chairman, Leo Burnett EMEA and president of Burnett’s Fiat Coordination Center. Lindner had previously spent four years as chief at Conquest & Red Cell network in Europe. The Italian-born executive began his career at TBWA in Paris and then served as managing director of TBWA Rome and client service director of TBWA Italy.
Lindner relocated to New York City earlier this year from Sao Paulo, after his role was expanded during the tenure of former Worldgroup CEO Nick Brien. (In addition to being given broader geographic mandates, both Lindner and Martinez added full oversight of McCann Erickson advertising.) Lindner has been the first exec in the company’s history to run both North America and Latin America, which together represent Worldgroup’s largest region by geography and revenue.
