Hayley Sumner, recently named svp and director of the consumer brand and entertainment practice at Fleishman-Hillard, is a New York native with decidedly nonurban interests.

A self-described cowgirl, the 40-year-old exec—formerly an entertainment-public relations consultant—enjoys horseback riding, fly-fishing and hiking with her 125-pound rottweiler, Brando. In 2002, she launched Pooch Pants USA, a line of pants for dog owners that come equipped with treats, toys and a water bowl. And early in her career, she left Young & Rubicam’s entertainment unit in New York for Winnipeg, Canada, where she raced cars and participated in equestrian events.

Despite all that, Sumner said her appointment at Omnicom Group’s FH in Los Angeles represents “a big move for me,” largely because it’s her first foray into global PR.
