CBS Taps EQAL for 'Harper's Island' Extension

NEW YORK CBS is leaning on the creative team behind “lonelygirl15” to launch an online extension of its upcoming midseason horror series Harper’s Island.

The digital production firm EQAL, which created the viral video hits “lonelygirl15” and “KateModern,” will collaborate with CBS on the complementary Web site HarpersGlobe.com. The latter will offer content that is tied to the network’s new show, but which features original story lines and characters. The complementary content is the product of a partnership pact inked by CBS and EQAL last May.

HarpersGlobe.com will launch on March 18, roughly three weeks before the 13-episode Harper’s Island premieres on CBS on April 9. CBS officials said that EQAL executives have been working with the show’s writers since last spring, when, according to reports, the original pilot for Harper’s Island — which features a group of vacationers hoping to elude a serial killer — was completely revamped.

Besides HarpersGlobe.com, the EQAL-guided Web content will be available on CBS.com, the CBS Audience Network and various mobile platforms, said officials.
